Written off too early, by too many people.

Marketers declared Facebook finished years ago. In India it remains one of the widest-reaching platforms available, particularly outside the metro twenty-somethings that marketing conversations tend to assume.

Short answer

Facebook marketing covers the organic side of the platform: your Page, Groups, Marketplace and Messenger. In India it still offers exceptional reach across older audiences, smaller cities and regional-language communities — segments frequently overlooked by businesses that have moved their attention entirely to Instagram.

01 The premise

Who is actually still there.

The claim that Facebook is dead comes largely from marketers observing their own social circle. In India the platform retains enormous reach, and crucially it reaches people that Instagram-first strategies miss: older decision-makers, audiences in tier-two and tier-three cities, and regional-language communities that are extremely active in Groups.

For a great many Indian businesses those are exactly the buyers. The person commissioning a factory shed, choosing a diagnostic centre for a parent, or selecting a school is frequently over forty and frequently on Facebook. Writing off the platform because it feels dated is an aesthetic judgement being applied to a commercial question.

Where the sceptics are right is organic Page reach, which is genuinely poor and has been for years. Posting to a business Page and expecting distribution is a waste of effort. The value now sits in Groups, in Marketplace for local retail, in Messenger, and in Facebook as the delivery surface for paid campaigns.

02 Where it works

Where Facebook still earns its place.

Four uses that work. Page posting alone is not one of them.

Groups

Local and interest communities with genuine engagement. Participating usefully — not spamming — reaches people no advertising targets as precisely. Slow, manual, and effective.

Marketplace

For local retail, furniture, equipment and vehicles it produces real enquiries at no media cost. Widely ignored by established businesses and used constantly by their customers.

Paid reach

Facebook remains where the widest and cheapest reach is available in India, particularly outside the metros. The Page exists to make those ads credible.

Messenger and click-to-WhatsApp

Conversation as the conversion. For many Indian buyers a message is far more likely than a form, and click-to-WhatsApp ads are among the most effective formats available here.

03 Page checklist

What a Facebook Page needs to have.

A one-off fix, and one that makes every ad you run more effective.

Page checklist

  • A complete About section. Services, area covered, hours, and a real address. Frequently half-filled.
  • A working contact route. Call button, WhatsApp and Messenger enabled, and someone actually reading them.
  • Recent activity. Not daily. Just enough that the last post is not from two years ago, because that is what a prospect sees.
  • Reviews and recommendations. Enabled, requested and responded to. Facebook recommendations still carry weight in local buying decisions.
  • Photos of real work. The most-viewed content on most local business Pages, and usually the most neglected.
  • Consistent details. Matching your website and Google profile exactly, because contradictions cost trust and confuse search.
