Map the seasons
Your destinations against their planning windows. This becomes the publishing calendar for the entire year.

Travel search runs on a calendar. Content published when the season starts is indexed and ranking roughly when the season ends, which is the most common and most expensive mistake in travel SEO.
Short answer
Travel SEO optimises for destination and season-driven search. Its defining characteristics are timing — content must rank before the planning window opens, so it is published two to three months ahead — and long-tail queries, where specific searches convert far better than broad destination terms.
Four details. A real reply the same day, from me.
01 The premise
Search engines take time. A new page needs to be crawled, indexed and then to accumulate enough signals to rank, and for a competitive destination term that is months rather than weeks. Travel operators consistently publish their Kashmir content in March, when enquiries are already arriving, and it becomes visible in June.
The fix is planning rather than technique: publish two to three months before the window opens, every year, on the same URLs. That last part matters and is frequently missed — rebuilding a seasonal page from scratch each year discards everything it earned last year. The same page, updated with current prices and dates, compounds.
The second structural point is where the winnable traffic is. Broad destination terms are dominated by aggregators with enormous authority, and competing head-on is expensive and slow. The queries that actually produce bookings for an operator are long: a destination, a duration, a traveller type and a constraint. Those are winnable, and they convert considerably better.
02 Query types
Broad terms are dominated by aggregators. Specific ones are not, and they convert better.
| Query type | Realistic assessment |
|---|---|
| A destination alone | Dominated by aggregators and large publishers. Very expensive to compete for and low commercial intent. |
| Destination plus package | Competitive but winnable with a genuinely specific page and honest pricing. |
| Destination plus duration | Better. Somebody planning a specific trip length is much closer to booking. |
| Destination plus traveller type | Family, honeymoon, senior, group. Strong intent and far less competition. |
| Destination plus month or season | Reliably searched, easy to answer well, and it aligns naturally with your seasonal planning. |
| Practical questions | Permits, best time, what to pack, altitude, road conditions. Lower intent, excellent for building authority ahead of a season. |
03 The work
Beyond the general SEO foundation, which still applies.

04 The year
Planned backwards from each season rather than forwards from today.
Your destinations against their planning windows. This becomes the publishing calendar for the entire year.
A page per destination and package, on permanent URLs that will be reused every season.
Content live two to three months before each window opens. This is the single discipline that matters most.
Permits, timing, packing, routes. Lower intent, and it builds the authority the commercial pages need.
Same URLs each year with current prices and dates. Rebuilding discards everything the page earned.

Two to three months before the planning window opens. Search engines need time to crawl, index and rank a page, so content published when enquiries start arriving becomes visible roughly when the season ends.
Not for broad destination terms, realistically. But for specific queries — a destination with a duration, a traveller type or a constraint — a genuinely detailed operator page can and does outrank them, and those searches convert far better.
No. Update the same URLs with current prices, dates and photographs. Rebuilding a page from scratch each season discards the authority it accumulated, which is precisely the asset that makes ranking easier the following year.
Practical content does — permits, best time to visit, road conditions, packing, altitude. It is read during planning, it builds authority before the commercial window, and it earns links naturally. Generic destination descriptions do not.
More than in most sectors. Travel is image-driven, image search brings real traffic, and your own trip photographs outperform stock both for engagement and for credibility. Proper file names and alt text are worth the effort here.
A full season cycle before you can judge it properly, because the whole point is ranking before a window that comes once a year. That is a genuine commitment, and it is why paid advertising runs alongside while the SEO builds.
