Businesses spend their Instagram effort curating a grid almost nobody scrolls, while the three things that actually produce enquiries — Reels, the profile header and the DM inbox — get whatever is left.
Short answer
Instagram marketing for a business rests on three things: Reels, which are how new people find you; the profile header, which decides whether they stay; and direct messages, which is where enquiries actually arrive. The feed grid matters far less than the effort usually spent on it.
Four details. A real reply the same day, from me.
01 The premise
Reels are the only reliable organic distribution left on Instagram. They are shown to people who do not follow you, which is the entire mechanism by which a business account grows now. Feed posts are largely shown to existing followers, and Stories almost entirely so. If discovery matters to you, Reels are the discovery.
The profile is what converts that reach. Somebody watches a Reel, taps the name, and spends about ten seconds on the header before deciding whether to follow, message or leave. Bio, name field, highlights and pinned posts are doing that work, and they are fixed structure rather than content — which means fixing them once pays forever.
And DMs are where the money is. A large share of Instagram enquiries in India arrive as messages rather than through any link, particularly for clinics, salons, travel and anything where the buyer would rather ask privately first. Businesses routinely leave those unread for days, which is the most expensive habit on the platform.
02 Reels
Craft rather than luck, and mostly decided in the first second.
03 The profile
Ten seconds of attention, and most of it wasted on most business accounts.

Two of these are on your dashboard and matter. Two are on your dashboard and do not.

Straight answers, including the ones that cost me work. If yours is not here, ask it — I reply the same day.
If you want to reach people who do not already follow you, effectively yes. Reels are the only format Instagram reliably shows to non-followers. Feed posts and Stories go mostly to your existing audience, which is useful for retention but not for growth.
Reels that reach non-followers, plus a profile header that converts the visit. Growth is those two things multiplied. Buying followers actively harms you: it dilutes your engagement rate, which is what the distribution system reads.
They matter far less than they used to and are no longer a growth strategy. A few genuinely relevant ones do no harm. Thirty hashtags in a comment is a habit left over from an older version of the platform.
Make the enquiry route obvious and then answer it quickly. WhatsApp and call buttons enabled, a clear next step at the end of content, and DMs read daily. Most Instagram enquiries in India arrive as messages, and most businesses are slow to answer them.
It depends entirely on who buys from you. Instagram skews younger and more urban and is stronger for visual categories — clinics, salons, food, fashion, interiors, travel. Facebook reaches older buyers and smaller cities more effectively. Neither is universally better.
Consistency matters more than volume. Two or three Reels a week, sustained, outperforms daily posting that stops after a month. Instagram rewards accounts that keep producing watchable content, not accounts that had a busy fortnight.
