The page cannot be judged without knowing what was promised. Mismatch is the most common single fault.
PPC Strategy · Delhi NCR & remote
Everybody optimises the campaign and almost nobody optimises the page it points at — despite the page being cheaper to change and frequently the larger constraint.
Short answer
Landing page optimisation improves the percentage of paid visitors who enquire. It is usually the cheapest available improvement to an ad account, because a page converting twice as well halves cost per lead without any change to bidding, targeting or budget. The main levers are message match, objection order, form length and load speed.
Four details. A real reply the same day, from me.
01 The premise
Imagine an account spending a fixed budget, sending a thousand clicks a month to a page converting at two per cent. Twenty leads. Improving the page to four per cent produces forty leads for exactly the same spend, and halves the cost per lead. No bidding change achieves that reliably, and no budget increase achieves it at all.
Yet the effort ratio is inverted almost everywhere. Enormous attention goes into bid strategies, match types and audience segments, while the page those clicks land on has not been touched since it was built. Part of the reason is organisational — the ads person frequently cannot edit the website — which is exactly why doing both is useful.
The other reason is that page changes feel subjective, and they need not be. Message match against the actual ad copy is checkable. Form abandonment by field is measurable. Scroll depth tells you where people stop reading. Load time is a number. Most of the work is diagnosis rather than taste.
02 Priorities
Ordered by how much difference each typically makes, not by how interesting it is.
03 Process
Diagnosis first. Redesigning on instinct is how pages get prettier and convert worse.

Scroll depth, form field abandonment, time on page, device split. It usually names the problem within minutes.
Message match, form length, speed, contact routes. These rarely need testing — they need doing.
Where traffic volume makes a test meaningful. Below roughly a hundred conversions per variant you are measuring noise.
Pages decay as offers, competitors and traffic sources change. What worked last year may not now.

Both, not just the page — the mismatch between them is the commonest fault and it cannot be seen from one side. You will get a prioritised list of what is losing the click.

Testing has a real cost in time and traffic. Spend it where the answer might change something.

It depends so heavily on offer, industry and traffic quality that external benchmarks are close to useless. What matters is your own trend and the underlying maths — whether cost per qualified lead sits below what a customer is worth to you.
Most often the headline does not continue the ad’s promise, so the visitor has to work out whether they are in the right place. After that: too many competing actions, a form asking for more than it needs, an unanswered objection, or a page too slow on mobile data.
As long as the objections require. A familiar low-risk service can convert on one short screen; an expensive or unfamiliar one needs proof and detail. Decide with scroll data rather than opinion — it shows exactly where people stop.
Only with enough traffic for the result to mean something — below roughly a hundred conversions per variant you are mostly measuring noise, and acting on that is worse than not testing. At lower volumes, fix the obvious faults instead.
The fewest that let you make a useful first call — usually name, phone, and one qualifying question. Every additional field costs completions. Anything else can be asked on the call, where you will get better answers anyway.
Substantially, especially on mobile data where a large share of Indian traffic sits. Visitors leave slow pages before reading anything, and you have already paid for that click. Speed is one of the few changes that improves conversion and ad relevance at once.
