Decide the platforms
Where your buyers actually are, which is usually one or two, not five. Running five badly is worse than running one properly.
Social Media · Delhi NCR & remote
A business with two thousand engaged followers in its own city can outperform one with fifty thousand scattered across the country. Almost every social media report measures the wrong one of those.
Short answer
Social media marketing combines organic content and paid promotion to move people from not knowing you exist to enquiring. For most businesses the organic account exists to make paid advertising credible — a prospect who clicks an ad checks the profile before enquiring, and an abandoned profile loses the lead the ad paid for.
Four details. A real reply the same day, from me.
01 The premise
Most small businesses run social media as though it were a broadcast channel: post regularly, accumulate followers, hope for sales. For a tiny number of businesses that works. For the overwhelming majority the organic account has a narrower and more valuable job, and understanding it changes what you post entirely.
That job is corroboration. Somebody sees your ad, or hears your name, or finds you in search. Before contacting you they check your profile — and what they are looking for is not entertainment. They want evidence you are real, active and competent. A profile last updated in 2023 answers that question badly, and the ad that sent them there has already been paid for.
This reframes the work usefully. You do not need viral content. You need a profile that looks alive, shows real work, and answers messages. That is achievable for a business that does not employ a content team, and it is where almost all of the commercial value sits.
02 The jobs
Ranked by how much they matter for a business selling a considered service.
The profile a prospect checks after seeing your ad or hearing your name. Real work, recent activity, replies to messages. This is the highest-value function and the one most neglected.
Where you can genuinely buy reach among people who have never heard of you. The organic account makes the ad believable; the ad does the reaching.
Existing customers who follow you buy again and refer. Slow, unglamorous, and the part with the best long-term economics.
03 Straight talk
The right column is what most social media reports are made of.

04 Process
Modest, repeatable, and sized for a business that is not a media company.
Where your buyers actually are, which is usually one or two, not five. Running five badly is worse than running one properly.
Bio, contact route, pinned content, highlights, and a link that goes somewhere useful. A one-off job with lasting value.
Work you completed, questions you answered, people who work there. Not motivational quotes.
Paid behind the posts that earn it, aimed at a defined audience rather than boosted at random.
Messages and comments answered. The single most commercially valuable social media activity there is.

These sit next to social media marketing and are usually bought with it. Same person doing the work in each case.

Straight answers, including the ones that cost me work. If yours is not here, ask it — I reply the same day.
Fewer than you think, and the number matters far less than who they are. Two thousand people in your city who could actually hire you is worth more than fifty thousand scattered accounts. Follower count is the metric most easily bought and least connected to revenue.
Where your buyers already are, which for most Indian service businesses means Instagram, Facebook and increasingly WhatsApp, with LinkedIn if you sell to businesses. Being on one platform properly beats being on five badly, and I will tell you which one to drop.
Consistently enough that the profile does not look abandoned — for most businesses that is two or three times a week, not daily. Sustainable frequency beats an ambitious schedule you abandon after six weeks, which is worse than never starting.
Organic reach for business pages is genuinely low and has been for years. What still works is organic as proof rather than as distribution: the profile a prospect checks before enquiring. Expecting it to replace advertising is where most disappointment comes from.
No, and anybody who does is describing luck as a service. What can be committed to is consistent, credible content and paid distribution that reaches a defined audience. Virality is a bonus, not a plan.
Both, in that order of urgency. Ads reach people who do not know you exist; the organic profile convinces them once they arrive. Ads alone lose leads at the profile check. Organic alone reaches almost nobody new.
