14 sectors · Travel is the deepest

Every sector searches, objects and buys differently.

A real-estate enquiry and a travel enquiry look identical in a form. One is worth a site visit six weeks from now; the other has a booking window of four days. Marketing that treats them the same wastes both.

Short answer

Industry-specific marketing means building the campaign around a sector’s real buying behaviour — its search vocabulary, its objections, its season and its sales cycle — rather than applying one template everywhere. I work deepest in travel and tourism, and across real estate, education, healthcare, hospitality, interiors, e-commerce, events, NGOs and local business.

01 The short version

Why the template does not transfer.

The mechanics of digital marketing barely change between industries. The judgement does, and that is where the money is won. When to spend, what a lead is worth, what the buyer is frightened of, how long they take to decide, and what a competitor will say about you when you are not in the room — all of that is sector knowledge, and none of it is in the platform documentation.

Travel is the sector I know best, through the work my own company WebKey India has done for tour operators and agencies. It is also one of the most unforgiving: demand is violently seasonal, the enquiry has a short window before somebody books elsewhere, and the same destination is sold by a hundred operators with near-identical itineraries. Everything about the marketing has to be built around speed of response and a reason to choose you rather than the cheapest quote.

The others on this list are sectors I have delivered work in and can speak about concretely. If yours is not here, the method still applies — but I will tell you plainly that I am learning your buying cycle rather than pretending I already know it.

02 Travel & Tourism

The sector I know best.

Seasonal demand, a short booking window, and a hundred operators selling the same itinerary. Marketing, websites, SEO, lead generation and the software behind it.

03 Other Industries

Nine sectors, nine buying cycles.

Each one with a different definition of a good lead — a site visit, an admission, an appointment, a direct booking or a donation.

04 How it runs

How sector work differs.

01

Learn the cycle

How long from first search to money, who else is involved in the decision, and what stalls it. This alone changes the channel choice.

CycleBuyersStalls
02

Find the vocabulary

What customers call it, not what the industry calls it. Patients do not search for the clinical name; buyers do not search for your project name.

TermsIntentGaps
03

Price the lead

What one customer is worth and what share convert — the only way to know whether a cost per lead is good or a disaster.

04

Match the season

Admissions, festivals, holidays, weather and financial year. Spending evenly across twelve months is wrong in most sectors on this page.

Answer the objection

Every sector has one thing the buyer is quietly worried about. The site and the ads either address it or lose to whoever does.
