The same lead form behaves differently on Instagram than on Facebook. The audience is faster-moving, more visual and considerably less patient with anything resembling paperwork.
Short answer
Instagram lead ads place a lead form within Reels, Stories and Feed. They work best for visual categories where the creative can demonstrate an outcome — clinics, salons, interiors, fitness, travel. Forms must be shorter than on Facebook, and follow-up frequently works better by direct message than by phone.
Four details. A real reply the same day, from me.
01 The premise
Instagram users move faster than Facebook users. They are scrolling Reels at speed, and an ad has to justify the interruption in about a second. That raises the bar for creative considerably and it lowers the tolerance for form length — a form that felt reasonable on Facebook feels like an imposition here.
The other genuine difference is how these leads want to be contacted. An Instagram lead is frequently younger and considerably more likely to answer a message than a phone call from an unknown number. Businesses that treat an Instagram lead exactly like a Facebook lead — ring it, ring it again, mark it dead — are throwing away contacts who would have replied to a WhatsApp message immediately.
And because Instagram is a visual platform, the creative can do qualification work that a form cannot. An ad that clearly shows the treatment, the finish or the destination attracts people who want that specific thing. Vague aspirational creative attracts everyone, which on a lead form means attracting nobody useful.
02 Differences
Same tool, genuinely different execution.
03 The flow
From the scroll to a conversation, in as few steps as the platform allows.
One second, vertical, showing the actual outcome. Everything else depends on this.
Name, phone, and one qualifying question. Anything more is negotiating with someone who is still half-scrolling.
An automatic WhatsApp within seconds, in a human voice. This is the step most businesses skip.
Qualify in chat rather than on a call. It suits the audience and it is easier for your team to manage at volume.
Once there is a reply and some intent. A call into an existing conversation is answered far more often.

Instagram leads answer messages and ignore unknown numbers. If your follow-up is calls only, you are marking contactable leads as dead. Tell me your process and I will tell you what to change.

— Questions
Straight answers, including the ones that cost me work. If yours is not here, ask it — I reply the same day.
Same mechanism, different execution. Instagram audiences move faster, abandon longer forms sooner, need vertical creative, and respond far better to message-based follow-up than to phone calls. Running identical campaigns on both and expecting identical results is a common mistake.
Two or three fields beyond what pre-fills, plus one qualifying question if your sales time is valuable. Anything longer sees noticeably higher abandonment than the same form on Facebook.
Message first, almost always. Instagram leads skew towards people who do not answer unknown numbers but reply to WhatsApp within minutes. Call once a conversation exists — that call gets answered.
Ones with something visible to show: clinics, salons, interiors, fitness, travel, events, food. If your creative can demonstrate the outcome, the ad qualifies the audience before the form does. Categories with nothing to show struggle here.
Usually the creative entertains without asking, the offer is not specific enough to act on, or the form is longer than a scrolling user will tolerate. Views without leads is a conversion problem, not a reach problem.
Yes, and they work well for time-limited offers and for warm audiences who already know you. Stories are full-screen and brief, so the creative has to be immediately clear and the form correspondingly short.
